What's the difference between ADA-compliant and wheelchair-accessible?
An ADA-compliant porta potty is built and documented by its manufacturer to meet the 2010 ADA Standards, including a 60-inch turning space. A wheelchair-accessible porta potty has ground-level entry, a wide door, grab bars, and room for a chair, but isn't marketed as ADA-compliant. Inspected public events need the compliant unit.

An event host on the coast asked for "an ADA one" and was quoted $401. When she explained that nobody would inspect it — a guest just needed wheelchair access — the right unit was the wheelchair-accessible model at $319. Ask yourself one question: will an inspector or permit office check it?
How many accessible porta potties does an event need?
Public events need at least 5% of the portable toilets in each cluster to be accessible, and never fewer than one. A festival with 20 units in one area needs 1 accessible unit; 40 units in two clusters of 20 need 2. Galveston Park Board beach events over 500 attendees plan 1 in 4 as accessible.
The rule is 2010 ADA Standards section 213.2, Exception 3, which applies to clustered single-user portable units. Turning space is defined in section 304 as a 60-inch diameter circle or a T-shaped space. Confirm your event's requirement with your permit office or venue; this is general information, not legal advice.
Wheelchair-accessible unit specs

Where should an accessible unit go?
Place an accessible porta potty on level, firm ground — a driveway, patio, compacted gravel, or short-mown lawn — with a clear route from seating that has no steps, curbs, or deep sand. On Galveston beaches, set it at the vehicle access point on the hard-packed approach, not in loose dune sand.
- Keep the route at least 36 inches wide and free of cords and hoses.
- Face the door away from the prevailing wind so it doesn't swing shut on a chair.
- Leave a 60-inch clear space in front of the door.
- Mark it with the accessibility sign that comes on the unit.

Questions renters ask us before booking
These questions come straight from real rental calls. Each answer starts with the short version, then the conditions that change it.
What's the difference between an ADA-compliant and a wheelchair-accessible porta potty?
An ADA-compliant unit is built to the 2010 ADA Standards, including a 60-inch turning space, and comes with the manufacturer's documentation for inspections. A wheelchair-accessible unit has a ground-level entry and room for a chair, but isn't sold as compliant. Accessible units start at $319; compliant units start at $401.
Do I need an ADA unit for my event?
For public events, plan on at least 5% of units in each cluster being accessible, and never fewer than one. That's how the ADA portable-unit rule is usually applied. Private parties only need one if a guest uses a wheelchair or walker. Confirm event rules with your permit office or venue.
Can you set up units for a church service or campground event?
Yes. Church events, campgrounds, and outdoor services are common orders. One church caller needed two units — one regular and one wheelchair-accessible — for a Sunday service; we delivered Friday and picked up Monday at no extra cost.
Where's the best place to put a porta potty?
Pick a level, firm spot within about 10 feet of where the service truck can park. Keep it 20+ feet from food, in shade if you can, and downwind of seating. On the island, avoid low spots that hold water after a storm and keep units out of dune vegetation.
Can you put a porta potty on the beach?
Sometimes, with permission. Beach events on Park Board beaches need a Park Board permit, and vehicles are restricted on the sand, so we usually set units at the nearest vehicle access point. East Beach has no indoor restrooms, which makes a rented unit the only option for guests.
How much does it cost to rent a porta potty in Galveston?
A standard event porta potty starts at $249 for a weekend package, delivery and pickup included. A deluxe flushing unit with a sink starts at $286. Construction units start at $199 per 28-day cycle with weekly service. A $34.95 fuel surcharge and tax apply. Your quote lists every line.
Can I cancel my porta potty rental?
Yes. Cancel up to 24 hours before your scheduled delivery for a full refund. Inside 24 hours, the delivery fee may apply because the truck is already routed. Weather happens — call and we'll move your date instead of cancelling.
